Rivatelier x Marangoni: Outside In x MDW 2026
On the occasion of MDW 2026, students from the three-year Product Design course at Istituto Marangoni Milano Design partnered with Rivatelier to reimagine balconies and terraces as dynamic continuations of interior living spaces. Outdoor areas are thus transformed into flexible environments designed to host work, relaxation, and social interaction throughout the day, blending technical performance with refined aesthetics and redefining the concept of outdoor living.
Among the finalist proposals, “Jhula”, that in hindi means “swing”, was showcased from April 20th to 26th on the fifth-floor terrace of the School at Via Cerva 24, creating an installation that offers a contemporary interpretation of the relationship between individual, time, and space.
More than a simple piece of furniture, it represents a true microcosm: a retreat conceived for those seeking a distinctive experience where aesthetics, functionality, and emotion coexist in harmony. Jhula becomes a place to pause, read, work, unwind, and even play, enhanced by the presence of an integrated swing.
Its identity is defined by a thoughtful balance between elegance and material presence. The outdoor fabrics evoke a sense of refined comfort, while the wooden structure reinforced by a metal core ensures strength, durability, and high construction quality. Completing the project are integrated planters from which delicate ivy tendrils grow, forming a natural system that provides privacy, filters light, and enriches the space with greenery, fostering a deeper connection with nature.
